Counselling is a process that is used to bring about positive changes that enrich people’s lives and help them to reconcile issues of the past in order to face their future with more confidence.
Counselling offers you the opportunity to explore issues which may be causing you concern or distress. During these times of distress you may experience feelings and emotions that seem difficult to cope with alone. These issues may have concerned you for some time or may be the result of a recent event, crisis or loss.
Counselling as an experience is unique to every individual who comes. Some people come for just a few sessions; others come for a longer period of time. Some people are very clear about what areas in their lives they want to explore. Other people feel less clear about where to start and what would help them.
Who is it for?
Counselling can be for anyone. People often find it a positive experience being able to take time out of their busy schedules in order to focus on themselves and understand at a deeper level who they are and how the things that they have experienced have affected and shaped them.
Some people, however, find that life is a real struggle as they try to grapple with thoughts and feelings that they do not always understand or that seem to dominate their everyday lives. If that is you, then you may find counselling particularly helpful.
Trust and Empathy
Counselling is not a panacea and does not work for everyone. Much of its success depends on the relationship of trust and empathy that is formed between the counsellor and client. It’s important to find a counsellor that you feel comfortable working with.
Helpful and positive impact
Some people come for counselling for just a few sessions. Others come on a more long term basis. People come for counselling for as long as they think it is helpful and is having a positive impact on their lives.
